Dear Parents,
Welcome to PE at South Ocala! We are excited about this 2009-2010 school year and are looking forward to being your child’s coaches. We hope to assist each student in developing better fitness and health.
During the first few days of school we will take the time to learn about each child, and throughout the year we hope to even meet you too! Parents and their involvement are crucial in the success of your child.
We are continuing to enhance our PE program to better serve your children. At South Ocala we have a Health Lab in our PE rotation. This means your child will get to participate in traditional PE activities as well as getting to learn about age appropriate science related health topics, such as hygiene, nutrition, body systems, dental health, etc.
Two very important principles, respect and responsibility, are crucial in our PE environment. With your encouragement and ours regarding these principles we are certain that every child will have a terrific year. Students have specific PE rules and consequences. Please be sure to read and go over them with your child.

** It is county policy that inappropriate touching results in an automatic referral.
We would also like to offer rewards and incentives for children who continually make good choices, act responsibly, and put forth their best effort. Each class will earn a maximum of 5 points a day at PE, based on participation and conduct. The class with the most points will earn rewards, including an end of the year surprise for the top class. Your child can help his or her class achieve this by showing exemplary behavior throughout the year, by dressing appropriately for PE activities, and participating. Home to school communication is very important. If any issues are in need of discussion, we will contact you as soon as possible. We would also like to hear from you if there are special concerns regarding your child.
We are looking forward to a wonderful year, filled with fitness, learning, life experiences, and fun! Please remember that school is most successful when there is a strong home-school communication. Help keep that alive by taking the time to read with your child, spend quality time with your child, talk with your child about their day at school, and get out and move with your child. Also take a look at our monthly newsletter on the SOE website. It will update you on the most recent happenings in Health and PE. Please take a few moments to read over this PE information with you child. If you have any questions please send a note or call us at school, 671-4750.
Sincerely,
Tim Glisson and Tony Hicks
